Widow of Gugu Zulu to honour husband’s memory by summiting Kilimanjaro

FOURWAYS – Gugu Zulu's wife, "I'm going back in memory of him."

Letshego Zulu made the announcement while speaking to TshihaLIVE almost one year after the death of her husband, who passed away due to respiratory problems after attempting to climb Africa’s highest mountain last year.

Zulu undertook the annual extreme hike named ‘Trek 4 Mandela’ in order to raise funds that would be used to buy schoolgirls the sanitary pads that would enable them to stay in school, and Letshego will be doing the same for this year’s trek.

“Even as I was descending last year with Gugu, I knew I had to return again. I had to do it for him. I had to do it for me. I had to do it for the people this initiative helps support,” Letshego said. “I want to honour my husband and I’m going back in memory of him. I know it is what he would have wanted.”

Zulu was a beloved South African racing car driver with thousands of fans. A memorial service was held in his honour at the Kyalami Racing Circuit on 26 July last year before the sportsman was laid to rest at Westpark Cemetery.
