UPDATE: Police investigate attempted murder case after elderly couple attack

JOBURG - An elderly couple was attacked in their Malanshof home.

UPDATE: 7 June 2017, 10am –  Police have confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been opened following an incident where an elderly couple was attacked in their Malanshof home.

Captain Walter Spencer, spokesperson for the Linden Police, said, on Sunday, 4 July an elderly couple were beaten in their home during a house robbery. The incident took place at about 11:45am.

Spencer confirmed that an attempted murder case is currently being investigated by the Linden Police and the couple were rushed to hospital after the attack.

Initial report: 5 June 2017, 8:30pm – According to a shocking post on the eblockwatch Facebook page, an elderly couple has allegedly been brutally attacked by a group of assailants in their home. The post shows the scene of a gruesome home invasion.

The couple’s granddaughter took to social media to alert the community that her grandparents were attacked with a steel pipe and a butcher knife, and have allegedly sustained severe head injuries.

It is believed that the couple are currently receiving treatment at the Netcare Sunninghil hospital.

Further details remain unclear at this stage, however, the Fourways Review has made contact with the granddaughter of the couple, who asked for some time for the family to settle after the horrendous incident.
