Top Cop Award nomination for best vispol at Douglasdale Police Station this May

DOUGLASDALE – Meet this month's Top Cop award nominee.

The best vispol (internal) nomination for May is Sergeant Naledzani Ida Hlungwane who has served in the police force since 2002.

She first trained in Pretoria West before joining Douglasdale Police Station.

This married mother of two takes immense pride in her work and enjoys witnessing the positive effects her work has on the community and the country.

“[I’m full of pride in my work] because a lower crime rate will mean a more stable South African economy, which will mean that our country booms. Investors and tourists will spend their money here, which is good for South Africans.”

Hlungwane was pleased to be nominated this month and has decided that if she wins the overall award for Top Cop in May, she will use the prize money to buy tea, coffee and milk for the station so that her colleagues can enjoy warm drinks while working through the coldest months of the year.

When speaking about the awards she said, “What Auto & General has decided to do [sponsor of the Top Cop Awards] really shows that our efforts as the police are recognised by our community. I want to say a big thank you to them for supporting us!”

Speaking about her work, Hlungwane said that she considers her commanders as her mentors as they have so much experience in the field who she can learn from.

“In five years, I can see myself working as a commander [for Douglasdale Police Station], because the station is like my second family.”

Hlungwane also expressed a love for the Douglasdale community, which she believes is unique from other communities that she has served. She also took the time to thank the Fourways Community Policing Forum for all their work, as well as community patrols and neighbourhood watches in the area.

“You must be vigilant against crime [in the area] and must also take the time to attend crime forums and meetings.”
