Nominee for this month’s Top Cop, Best Support, at Douglasdale Police Station

DOUGLASDALE– Know your nominated Cop for #TopCop Award.

This month, the nomination for Best Support is Dikeledi Kgampe.

Although she is actually an administration clerk for the detective unit, she plays a big part in the processes necessary to solve crimes.

“I have a lot of work to get through every day,” Kgampe told the Fourways Review.

“If we have 60 dockets [a collection of documents needed when someone reports a crime] in a day, I will need to make sure that [a good number of them] are completed, so sometimes I can work on completing 20 dockets a day before the incident can be officially investigated.”

Once Kgampe completes a docket, it is then allocated to a Douglasdale police detective who will investigate the matter. Kgampe has worked at the station for two years and previously worked at the Brits Police Station. She is a married mother of two children, a boy aged 11 and a daughter who is five. Her husband is a mechanic but currently works for correctional services.

When asked if her children might one day also work for the police, she laughed.

“My son has said that he may want to be a policeman when he grows up, but my daughter is too young to know what she wants to do,” she said.

“[When I talk to him about what I do], my son has said to me ‘Mama. You’re going to catch the bad guys.’

“Even when I say to him ‘No, that’s not what I do,’ he still repeats ‘you’re going to catch the criminals.'”

She added that she liked working with the Douglasdale community. “The people [in Douglasdale] who come here are very good people, They never give me any problems. And that’s good, because if they do have problems, it’s my job to deal with that.”
