Sitting on a winning chair at the X-treme Chair Race at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit

FOURWAYS – The Office National X-treme Chair Race's inaugural event at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and Convention Centre was a huge success.

The inaugural event of the Office National X-treme Chair Race was a resounding success amongst both the participants and the spectators.

The event was held at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday 16 May in partnership with the QuadPara Association of South Africa. Despite the icy cold weather, everyone walked around with huge smiles on their faces.

The event raised enough money for eight new wheelchairs and met its objective of raising awareness about mobility devices and challenges faced by quadriplegics and paraplegics in South Africa.

“The chair race is important for awareness because it’s hard to believe that in this day and age, there are parents who still walk kilometers, carrying their child on their back to school. When they become too heavy, they are house bound because they don’t have a wheelchair and all efforts to get them educated are lost,” said Wihan Oosthuizen, managing director of Office National Africa.

“Despite the rain, more than 1 000 spectators came out to enjoy the day, which saw a [Formula 1] theme boosting spirits, as well as teams winning for the ‘best dressed’ chair,” concluded Oosthuizen.

Alberante Motor Holdings clinched the first place in the X-treme Chair race.
