Nurses at Life Fourways Hospital get recognised with excellence awards

Fourways Life Hospital celebrate International Nurses Day to honour those who dedicate their lives to care for others.

Life Fourways Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day by treating their nurses to a special speaker and a delicious breakfast.

The key speaker of the day was Jaci Tibbit, Mrs Johannesburg 2017. She encouraged the nurses to take good care of themselves because they have to take care of others.

The hospital also celebrated Sinah Seanego, an enrolled nurse, and Khomotso Phala, a registered nurse, who were both nominated for the Life Healthcare Great 100 Nurses award.

Every year Life Healthcare selects 100 nurses for this award. Each hospital nominates their top nurses and submits motivations to head office to explain why they were chosen.

Hospital manager Hendrik Swartz said “International Nurses’ Day and initiatives such as Life Healthcare’s Great 100 Nurses provide opportunities to focus on the excellent work being carried out by our nursing team who strive for clinical excellence while delivering quality care to our patients. Our vision for nursing is to create the very best experience for our patients by placing them at the centre of care.”

Enrolled nurse Sinah Seanego and registered nurse Khomotso Phala were nominated for the Life Healthcare Great 100 Nurses award.

Life Healthcare Intensive Care Unit Manager, Mandla Lituka, a 2016 Discovery Excellence Award recipient said nursing is a noble profession which teaches discipline, professional conduct and an appreciation for cultural diversity. “It’s a job that requires care, honesty, professionalism, vision, innovation and vigilance,” he said.

“I’m proud to be a nurse and get a lot of personal satisfaction from knowing that what I do every day makes a difference,” said Margaret van Rooyen, Nursing Standards Manager at Life Fourways Hospital.
