Do your kids suffer from allergies?

BRYANSTON – Various specialists will address your questions about allergic disorders

Hayley Katz, founder and director at Allergy Alive, is inviting everyone, especially parents of children suffering from various forms of allergic disorders to the World Allergy Information Awareness event.

The event, which forms part of the World Allergy Week, which was from 1 to 7 April, will be held at Mike’s Kitchen in Bryanston on 25 April and various allergy specialists are expected to attend.

Katz said they have invited paediatrician Dr Meshandree Naidoo, paediatric dietician Lindsay Archibald-Durham and Jeanita De Pomeroy-Legg, a dietician.

Kymn Grant-Smith, an inspirational food developer, as well as Shane Smit, head chef at Jamie Oliver’s Melrose Arch restaurant have also been invited.

“We want people to listen and learn more about allergies and everyone is invited to attend. Entrance is free. The doctors or specialists will be available to answer questions that people might have about an allergic disorder,” she said.

Smit will cook and serve food to the guests and Katz said Smit will teach people about food substitutes. She said they also want to develop an online support group where members are afforded a platform to ask questions and a doctor will be able to answer them.

According to Katz, they have doctors who have special interests in allergies and they will be very happy to answer your questions.

“We want to have a resource network and a support network for sufferers and their families and we invite everyone, including teachers, parents, schools, principals and others from all sectors of our society to attend,” said Katz.

It will be a dynamic evening of fun, energy and information, which will be inspiring for all. Specialised children’s books by Mar Ribas will be available and there will be allergy-friendly giveaways as well, according to Katz.

Potential sponsors or donors are also welcome and Katz said the funds will be used towards allergy intervention projects.
