Ducks find home at Kitty and Puppy Haven

FOURWAYS – Mistreated ducks find home at animal sanctuary.

Samantha Berger, owner of Kitty and Puppy Haven, was informed about ducks which were in dire need of a new home.

The call came from a friend of one of her employees and Berger immediately agreed to take the ducks in at her shelter which has become a safe place for various animals.

She said the ducks were living in terrible conditions, eating dog pellets and didn’t have any access to water. When the ducks arrived at the sanctuary, they took to the water very quickly and this gave joy to the staff of the shelter.

“It was incredible to see them taking their first swim, they were totally overjoyed and wouldn’t get out of their little swimming pool,” said Berger.

“Currently they are cohabiting with our chickens and bunnies.” Berger added that they were building a pond for the ducks and creating a new living area for them.

Unfortunately, Berger said no case of neglect or cruelty could be instituted against the people who kept the ducks because the conditions that the animals were kept in were deemed acceptable.

“Our farmyard animals are now costing us an average of R4 500 monthly to feed and as these babies are all now permanent residents of KPH, any assistance towards their feeding would be greatly appreciated.”
