Remembering Reeva four years later

JOBURG – As the rest of the world celebrates Valentine's Day with flowers and chocolates, the memory of Reeva Steenkamp lingers in many South Africans minds.

Sadly on this day, four years ago, Reeva Steenkamp’s life was cut short at the hands of her famous boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius.

Born on 19 August 1983, Steenkamp was a Sandringham resident and later moved to Port Elizabeth. Steenkamp studied law at the University of Port Elizabeth and worked as a paralegal and a model after completing her studies.

Steenkamp rose up the modelling ranks after performing well in several local competitions. She was a finalist in the Weekend Post Faces of the future competition in 2004 and in the Herald Miss Port Elizabeth contest in 2005.

She appeared in FHM magazines as a model and cover girl and was the first face of Avon cosmetics in South Africa. Steenkamp was also the celebrity face for Spirit Day, an anti-bullying campaign in 2012. The epitome of beauty, grace and brains she is gone but never forgotten.

People are remembering her today by putting roses on the beach at Port Elizabeth where her ashes were scattered.
