According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Max Cohen, the suspect sustained a single gunshot wound and was stabilised by paramedics at the scene. He said the suspect was escorted by the police to a nearby facility. “The suspect is believed to be part of a hijacking syndicate currently operating in Johannesburg’s northern suburbs,” alleged Cohen.

“The suspect has been charged with hijacking a vehicle and is still in hospital care,” said Captain Balan Muthan, spokesperson for the Honeydew Police Station. He added that people should not leave their vehicles unattended since the Range Rover had been left unlocked and idling.
