Woman hijacked just after midnight

JOHANNESBURG – Suspects arrested for hijacking, attempted murder and possession of a loaded, unlicensed firearm.

 

Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested two suspects between the aged 25 and 26 for possession of an unlicensed firearm at the corner of Western and Main Reef roads on the 15 January at 12.45am.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Xoli Mbele, police were on their routine patrol when they were stopped by a female who informed them that she had been hijacked by two males. The victim was driving a silver Honda Civic.

Police reacted immediately. “They chased the car but the suspects never stopped, in fact, they began shooting at the police vehicle and the [police] retaliated.”

Mbele said the suspects lost control of the car and crashed. A loaded firearm was recovered. He said an investigation is underway and the suspects will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court to face charges of hijacking, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
