According to Michelle Townsend, property portfolio manager for the Tintswalo Property Group, they have evacuated all the centres. “The police, K-9 Unit and bomb squad are currently busy sweeping Lonehill Shopping Centre and will then sweep Carlswald Lifestyle Shopping Centre and Bel Air Shopping Centre,” Townsend said.
She added that all routes to Lonehill Shopping Centre and Bel-Air Shopping Centre are closed and no shops are operational at the moment.
“We are 99 percent sure that these bomb threats are a hoax but we are making 100 percent sure that there aren’t any bombs at these centres. We cannot afford to take such risks,” Townsend said.
Ward 94 DA councillor, David Foley confirmed that there is a bomb threat at Lonehill Shopping Centre and the police are on the scene. “I have asked Douglasdale Police Station commander, Brigadier Lettie Hugo to look into these threats, as we want to know what is going on. We want the culprits responsible for these threats to be found and arrested,” Foley stressed.
