UPDATE: Lonehill murder victim’s children being looked after by Social Development

LONEHILL - After witnessing their mother's murder on 12 October in Lonehill, the two children at the scene are being looked after the Gauteng Department of Social Development.

UPDATE – 13 October 1.23pm

Following the murder of a Lonehill resident, the Gauteng Provincial Governement have intervened to assist the victim’s four and nine year old children who were left with their mother’s body for several hours after witnessing her murder.

The Gauteng Social Development MEC Nandi Mayathula-Khoza said her Department worked through out the night to assist distraught children to reunite them with other family members including the father.

“After we moved the children from the crime scene, we provided them with the necessary psychosocial support, mobilised the intervention of forensic pathologist through the Gauteng Department of Health who assisted us to remove the body of the deceased. We also alerted the SAPS Provincial Commissioner to ensure that the police on the scene implemented children friendly investigation protocols,” added Mayathula-Khoza.

UPDATE – 13 October 10.20am

Captain Makgowanyana Maja from Randburg Police station said, “There is an open docket regarding the matter as further investigation are in process, however, the suspect has not been found and is still at large.”

The murder occurred in Lonehill on Sceale Road near Crawford Lonehill Preparatory.

According to the Lonehill CPF, SAPS has launched a massive manhunt for the suspect in question.  The name of the victim has not been made public, as the next of kin has not been informed about her death.

Ward councillor of ward 94 David Foley said, “The police have asked that all media statements will be issued by them in this regard not to jeopardize the investigation. I think a point to be made is to all community members to ensure that everyone that they employ must have valid identification so if there is a crime committed the police can follow up accordingly, this may or may not related to this case specifically bit as a general rule.”

According to a report, a woman from Lonehill has been killed, allegedly, by her domestic worker.

According to the CPF, SAPS has launched a massive manhunt for the suspect in question.  The name of the victim has not been made public, as the next of kin has not been informed about her death.

The CPF urges residents to resolve disputes amicably and to keep all documents of employees on record.

The Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) released a statement following the woman’s death.

The statement read:  “The LRA wishes to release a further update on the incident that took place earlier today in a complex off Sceales Road in Lonehill. We regret to inform residents that an adult female succumbed to stab wounds, inflicted during an altercation with a domestic worker. The next of kin are still in the process of being notified and therefore the identity of the victim may not be released at this time.”

The statement continued, “A full scale SAPS investigation is currently in progress. A suspect has been identified and a police manhunt is currently in progress. No further details will be released at this time. The LRA wishes to express its sincere condolences to the family of the victim. We would like to reassure the community that, along with SAPS, the CPF, Neighbourhood Watch, Fidelity Security Services as well as various other security service companies, that the highest levels of security in the area is being maintained. Further information will be released in due course.”

The family of the victim is believed to be receiving counseling.
