Children watch film on big screen for the first time

SANDTON – More than 100 children from the Kya Sands informal settlement got to watch a movie on the big screen this Heritage Day.

About 110 children from the Kya Sands informal settlement, who are supported by the Life Tree Charity, received a real treat on Heritage Day when they were invited to watch a movie on the big screen for the first time.

The field trip, organised by the 4Ways 5Roads Community Forum, was an opportunity for the forum to hand over funds which it raised for Life Tree Charity.

“With every life we improve, we garner a belief in self-worth, and this is something we are all proud to be part of,” said Manoj Bhoola, chairperson of the 4Ways 5Roads Community Forum.

“[The community] has also donated, among other [items], clothing, furniture, carpets and books to assist Life Tree Charity in running an effective uplifting programme. A big shout out to the 4Ways 5Roads community for supporting this initiative together with a fundraiser.”

Life Tree Charity is based in the Kya Sands area and provides education and food for children and families who live in the settlement, feeding about 150 residents daily with produce from a local food garden.

They charity received a R4 000 donation from the forum.

“The children were bused in from Kya Sands to the Ster-Kinekor headquarters in Sandton, who kindly decided to sponsor the day,” Bhoola added.

The 4Ways 5Roads Community Forum adopted Life Tree Charity as their beneficiary to support due to the incredible work that the non-governmental organisation does for the informal community.
