The police alert the community about housebreaking and theft

DOUGLASDALE – Read on how not to fall prey to a housebreaking.

Head of communications for the Douglasdale Police Station, Captain Mpho Kgasoane said housebreaking and theft were of great concern to the police.

“While patrolling the area we were alarmed that some community members leave their gates open instead of locking them,” he said.

“They also leave their security gates open and leave their vehicle which is parked outside their yard, unlocked. Some of the windows to their homes were left open and the house door was left unlocked.”

He advised the community to consider the following tips:

  • Always lock your door even when you are at home
  • Main doors should be fitted with strong locks
  • Ask neighbours to keep an eye on your premises when not at home
  • Always insist on seeing the identification cards of callers who claim to be government officials
  • Never open doors to strangers
  • Report any suspicious characters to the police.

“Help us to make your area safe, as we believe that together we can act against crime and if you do not buy stolen goods you can help stop crime,” Kgasoane concluded.
