Community members turn intersection green

FOURWAYS – Read to see how community members did their bit to welcome the spring season.

A team of caring community members recently took to the streets of Fourways to create a verge garden comprising 450 plants and a carpet of lawn on the corner of William Nicol Drive and Robert Bruce Road in Beverley to welcome the spring season.

This was all thanks to Nic Duck of Duck & Craig Advertising who led his team in the planting of the garden in support of Future City Fourways (FCF), a non-profit, area upliftment programme.

FCF’s Susan Mottram said, “The team wore ‘We’re blooming good at gardening’ T-shirts and the squad worked from morning ’til night throughout the last week of August, laying out the garden design, removing litter, raking compost and preparing the ground before planting grass, flowers and shrubs.

“The garden was completed on 2 September. The new garden will now be watered with borehole water from the property of The Farm Nursery (another FCF sponsor) and maintained by a gardener who has been hired by Duck & Craig Advertising on a full-time basis for this purpose.”

Mottram added that FCF and residents of Fourways have been blessed by Duck and Craig Advertising’s commitment to creating this intersection as a grime-free zone.

“By adopting this verge, Duck & Craig is supplementing the sponsored, weekly street cleaning and maintenance services that Future City Fourways provides on William Nicol Drive and Witkoppen Road. It is through private partnerships against grime and crime that the people of Fourways will save Fourways from becoming a hotspot of urban decay.”
