Is your teacher awesome?

JOHANNESBURG – Want to tell the country how awesome your teacher is and win prizes for doing so? Then this competition is for you!

Do you have the best teacher in South Africa? Do you want others to know about the immense difference that great teachers can make in a child’s life?

Woolworths, in association with MySchool, is calling for nominations in this year’s Teachers’ Day competition and they want to hear from you!

This year’s theme is ‘Is Your Teacher Awesome?’ Every school and each pupil from either primary or high school are invited to enter the competition in commemoration of World Teachers’ Day on 5 October.

To win your share of the R300 000 prize up for grabs, all you have to do is write a motivation to Woolies, of no more than 200 words, explaining why your teacher is awesome. Pupil’s submissions must include the name of the nominated teacher, the name of their school, the name and grade of the submitting pupil and the school’s area. You are also welcome to include relevant photographs and drawings.

The panel of independent judges read all the submissions and choose the ones that they feel are the most compelling with the best examples of ‘awesome’ teachers who make a difference in the kids’ lives through their work. If the judges deem a submission the best, that child wins a prize for best submission, the teacher the child nominated wins a prize, and the school that both teacher and child attend, do as well

The judges will decide the top four entries from primary and high schools in each region.

The eight winning teachers will each receive a laptop, a R5 000 Woolworths gift card and an all-expenses paid weekend in Durban with their partners. Winning pupils will receive a R5 000 Woolworths gift card and the winning schools will each receive a R5 000 cash prize.

The second stage of the competition serves to determine the three national grand prize winners. As part of their weekend getaway in Durban, the eight regional finalist teachers will be invited to attend a meet-and-greet with the panel of independent judges.

National grand prize winners will receive additional prizes:

1st place – R25 000 cash and a R25 000 Woolworths gift card

2nd place – R10 000 cash and a R10 000 Woolworths gift card

3rd place – R5 000 cash and another R5 000 Woolworths gift card.

Enteries are now open and winners will be announced on World Teachers’ Day, 5 October.
