WATCH: Voting ran smoothly in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT - For most Diepsloot residents, voting progressed smoothly without any incidents at many of the voting stations in Diepsloot.

There were, however, a few voters who were turned away. July and Jabulani Hlatshayo turned up armed with Identity books, ready to exercise their democratic rights, however, their hopes collapsed when they were told that their names were not on the Ward 95 voters’ roll.

“I voted here in the previous elections, I am disappointed that I could not cast my ballot,” said Hlatshayo.

Jabulani also expressed his frustrations, adding that he does not understand why his name was not on the voter’s roll. They both insisted that they registered to vote.

A 21-year-old Mpho Mokgolu, who was voting for the first time, could not hide her excitement. Mokgolu said that she felt good that she participated in the election.

“It is honestly a nice feeling to vote,” said the visibly excited Mokgolu.

Fourways Review’s news team spoke to ANC’s candidate Matlale Mpahlele at Mozumuhle Primary School.

Mpahlele said her victory was certain.

“It’s absolutely clear that I am winning because people here would not vote for a white party like Democratic Alliance. But it’s good that they are contesting just to give us pressure to continue delivering,” said Mpahlele.
