IEC ready for #ElectionDay

JOHANNESBURG - As resident head off to the polls the Independent Electoral Commission have shared a few facts to keep in mind on Election Day.

Chairperson of the Independent Electoral Comission, Glen Mashinini said he is confident that all preparations necessary for election day are in place.

Mashinini said the commission has done everything they can to ensure that elections run smoothly today, ensuring that the elections are free, fair and peaceful. “The security cluster has been deployed at voting stations to make sure that the environment is peaceful.”
Below are some quick facts voting facts:

  • Voting stations will be open from 7am to 7pm.
  • You may only vote at the voting station where you are registered.
  • Remember to bring your valid identity document – either a smartcard ID, green barcoded ID book, or valid temporary ID certificate.
  • Voters may wear clothing which features political party insignia. It is only candidates and party agents who may not wear such clothing inside voting stations.
  • Voters whose addresses don’t appear on the voters’ roll will be asked to kindly complete an address update form so that we have your address for future elections.
  • Share the fact that you’ve voted with your friends and family via social media. Use the hashtags #ivoted and #2016MunicipalElections. Just remember that selfies of marked ballot papers are not allowed.
