SABC’s legal battle continues
JOBURG - The legal battle between the SABC and four of the eight dismissed employees is not over yet.
On 26 July, the Labour Court ruled that the dismissal of Suna Venter, Krivani Pillay, Foeta Kriga and Jacques Steenkamp was unlawful. The court ordered the SABC to reinstate the journalists in their positions immediately.
The four employees were supposed to be back at work this morning but this is not happening as the SABC is appealing the judgement. Juran van den Heever of Solidarity, the union representing the employees, confirmed that the public broadcaster is appealing the judgement.
The court also issued an interdict against any further disciplinary action against the four. Furthermore, within five days, the persons responsible for the journalists’ dismissal must provide motivation to the court why they should not be held liable in their personal capacity.
