Random acts of kindness for those in need

LONEHILL – Putting others first with every spread of bread.

The importance of getting the youth involved in random acts of kindness saw pupils of Lonehill Preparatory School giving back to those in need.

To commemorate Mandela Day, the pupils used their 67 minutes and made sandwiches and collected boxes of soup for children of Philile Nursery school in Diepsloot.

The reason the teachers wanted the pupils to give back to the community is so that they could learn the importance of caring for others.

Being a fairly new school in the area, the concept behind the preparatory school came after the success of the nursery school, which is situated in the same premises. “We did not want to open an everyday run-of-the-mill preparatory school as it had to embrace the ethos of our nursery school, The Child Comes First,” said the owner and principal of the school, Siobhan Norris.

“In a society where schools are praised for their results, we believe it is necessary to provide the child with an environment that nurtures their needs on an emotional level, trusting that the academics would follow.”
