Eskom erects pylons in Lonehill

LONEHILL – Lonehill residents are disturbed in their sleep by allegedly noisy pylons.

MTN tower headaches in Lonehill are being compounded by the introduction of Eskom’s allegedly noisy pylons in the same suburb.

A resident, Charmaine Smith told Fourways Review that Eskom erected pylons all over Lonehill along the Eskom servitude.

“One of the pylons is metres from my bedroom window. They have erected the noisiest, most unsightly pylons right in our backyards. This is a disaster from a property pricing perspective and so noisy that it affects our sleep and the ability to appreciate sitting outside in the garden,” she said, adding that she was not consulted before the unsightly pylons were imposed in her neighbourhood.

Eskom’s media desk confirmed that noise was being emitted in the area, but apportioned the blame to a substation and not a pylon. In a one-paragraph response, the media desk said they managed to get in touch with the complainant. A promise was made to issue a full press statement on 14 July by 10am. This commitment was, however, never fulfilled.

“Our sincerest apologies for the delay in responding to your query. Our colleagues working on the responses to your questions have informed us that they have been in touch with the customer that has sent in the complaint. The issue seems to have been a noisy substation and not a pylon,” said Eskom’s media desk.

Instead, the power utility requested the physical address of the complainant seven days after receiving this paper’s set of questions.
