Douglasdale residents paint Msawawa Mobile Clinic

DOUGLASDALE - CPF leads Mandela Day activities in Msawawa.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) recently held a successful Mandela Day observation at Msawawa Mobile Clinic, which assists almost 65 destitute families.

Douglasdale Police Station police officers and community members joined the members of the CPF in painting the clinic, repairing the fence and planting a vegetable garden.

Secretary of the forum, Claire Wienand said the clinic got the forum’s attention because its government grant was not enough to sustain other projects. “While the clinic does receive some subsidies from various government departments, they are not enough to sustain their ongoing empowerment projects.

“The clinic also has a wishlist of items required to assist with their projects which include chalkboards, office desks and chairs, plastic chairs, steel tables, gas heaters, plastic plates and cups, sewing machines, cotton thread, fabric, wool, crochet and knitting needles, colouring books and pens, sanitary towels and toiletries.”

The clinic also assists about 65 destitute families and their children from the local informal settlement. She added that the clinic was a safe haven for the children to stay at after school.
