Milk tanker catches fire on the N1

MIDRAND – Commuters had to use alternative routes due to a milk tanker that was on fire on the evening of 11 July, on the N1 South on New Road in Midrand.

 

A milk tanker caught fire on the evening of 11 July, on the N1 South on New Road in Midrand.

According to ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak, at around 7.22pm, the N1 South was closed off to traffic due to the tanker being on fire. “Even though the tanker was on the side of the road, for safety reasons, the highway was closed until the fire department could extinguish the flames,” he said.

Vermaak added that at around 8.16pm, the road was open to traffic after the fire was under control. “At the moment the cause of fire is unknown and no injuries have been reported,” he said.

“A special thank you goes out to the police services and Metro police who arrived in minutes and closed off the N1 to help control the tanker’s fire, as safety first was important.”
