Three suspects arrested for the killing of Diepsloot officer

DIEPSLOOT- Final step of justice for the Diepsloot police officer that was shot and killed while changing a tyre.

Three suspects have been arrested as a result of a massive manhunt which was put into place by the police after the killing of 31-year-old, police officer of Diepsloot Police Station, Constable Tshiamo Thapedi.

Thapedi was killed in the overcrowded township while changing a punctured tyre with a colleague in Tanganani Ext.

Diepsloot police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela said, “Three men were arrested in Diepsloot for allegedly killing Constable Thapedi. One was caught and arrested on the afternoon of 30 June and two were arrested on the morning of 1 July.

He added that the first suspect was caught through cooperation between the local police and the community, and the other two were arrested as a result of the additional collaboration with a member from the Hawks and National Intervention Unit (NIU).

“A handgun and ammunition were recovered from one of the suspects arrested on 1 July. The three will be charged with armed robbery and murder, and one will face an additional charge of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. They are due to appear at Randburg Magistrate’s Court soon,” Mavimbela concluded.
