Up and downs but faith for Liam stronger than ever

LITTLE FOURWAYS VILLAGE - Liam Fraser-Bothma who survived a near-drowning is fighting for recovery.

THERE were many tears of joy from the family and many well-wishers of Liam Fraser-Bothma on 24 June as the little 15-month-old, who suffered a near-drowning in the bathtub in his Little Fourways Village home on 9 June, managed to take between three and 11 breaths every minute for at least 20 minutes.

An entry on the Facebook page, Liam Fraser-Bothma Update, which is keeping community members informed of Fraser-Bothma’s condition, read at 10.50am on 24 June: “We believe the little Lion is roaring. Trusting, believing, hoping, praising.”

Fraser-Bothma has been hospitalised at Netcare Garden City Hospital since the evening of the accident and his breathing is assisted by a ventilator.

However, on 25 June, the Facebook page informed well-wishers that the little one encountered some anticipated challenges on the evening of 24 June. “They had to re-intubate him because he vomited quite a bit. There seem to be signs of an infection and he hasn’t taken a breath today yet.”

By 26 June, medical staff had found that Fraser-Bothma had picked up sepsis. “His breathing has improved from yesterday but we’ve started at square one again, which is okay. Unfortunately the meds they’re giving him for the infection has necessitated a change in some of the other meds which will make him drowsy and slow down his responses, so bear with us,” read another Facebook post, as the family continues to place their trust in God.
