Douglasdale Community Police Forum host potjiekos competition

BROADACRES – Uniting the community over potjiekos.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum along with the Douglasdale police and Metro police hosted their second potjiekos competition at the Broadacres Shopping Centre parking area.

The fundraising initiative aimed to create awareness about crime within the community and allowed members of the public to meet and build relationships with the men and women in blue.

Chairperson of the forum, Jean Berdou said, “The event is aimed at building community unity in the law enforcement ranks, CPF and security companies and is great for family bonding.” From face painting to jumping castles and a craft market, the day attracted both young and old and proved to be a fun day for all.

A total of 16 teams entered the competition. Winner for Best Potjie Main Category went to the only family team calling themselves Fa’Mielie, and winner for Best Potjie Open Category went to the Douglasdale Police Station team.

The station’s team also impressed judges with their cultural theme, warranting them the award for Best Team Spirit and Best Dressed Team, while NightGuard Security took home the award for Best Stand.

Sponsors of the event included Country Meat, Super Spar Broadacres, Papachinos, Humble Harry’s, Mixolydian Sound System, My Party Supplies and a number of other sponsors.

All potjiekos entries were then sold to the public for R20 a plate.
