Ahmed Kathrada Foundation calls for donations

JOBURG - The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is urging the community to make donations for its Operation Winter Warm campaign.

To help those who struggle from the cold during winter, members of the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation will conduct their annual Operation Winter Warm campaign on 25 and 26 June.

The programme will see the youth collect blankets, clothing, non-perishable food items and books for residents during the door-to-door campaign. The collected items will be handed over to disadvantaged communities along with invaluable help from the Gift of the Givers Foundation, the largest disaster relief organisation in Africa.

“The Operation Winter Warm campaign is run by the youth, from planning all the way to execution. We hope that they will develop a selfless approach towards… their own communities,” said the programmes co-ordinator, Busisiwe Nkosi.

This year, the project is set to have drop-off points in areas in Lenasia, Lenasia South, Roshnee, Soweto and Sandton where communities willing to give donations can show their support.

Members of the community are welcome to make donations at the following venues:

  • Sandton, Crawford College Benmore Gardens
  • Lenasia (Rising Sun) 164 Rose Avenue, Ext 3
  • Lenasia Glass House, Lenasia Cricket Stadium
  • Gibson Pillay Learning Academy, Lenasia South, 1144 Lancester Street, Ext 1
  • Roshnee, Salaamit Street, Dadaville
  • Soweto, 8371 Twala Street, Phefeni.

The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation is an organisation which, among other offerings, organises seminars, lectures, debates and research on issues which promote a non-racial, non-sexist and democratic South Africa.
