We have all read crime tips about keeping your car safe, or how to prevent a housebreaking – but what about keeping yourself safe?
Sergeant Cynthia Segoa of the Sandton Police Station offered some insight into keeping yourself safe when you are out in public.
“The following tips can be invaluable when you find yourself threatened in any way, and can also help prevent you from finding yourself in dangerous situations,” she said.
The tips are:
- Never walk alone, rather try to walk in a group if possible
- Do not talk to strangers
- At night, always try to walk along well-lit roads and paths
- Always let someone know where you are going
- Know all the important emergency numbers
- Trust your instinct
- Avoid displaying valuables.
