Construction is now in progress at K46 site

DIEPSLOOT - Wheels of graders, tippers and excavators are now in motion again at the K46 site.

It was business as usual on 23 May when a Fourways Review news team visited the K46 site in Diepsloot.

The heavy engines of graders, tippers and earth excavators were noisily buzzing onsite, scraping the earth.

Hundreds of workers in overalls were also seen toiling around the site.

Fourways Review has been religiously following developments at the R500-million K46 site with the view to keep track of how the taxpayers’ money is being spent.

The troubled site, which has been shut down more than thrice since March by members of the local business community, is now fully operational.

Leader of the Greater Diepsloot Business Forum, Peter Molatjane, confirmed to Fourways Review that all the sticking points were clarified and ironed out. “Everyone has been paid and the main contractor, Lubbe Construction, gave an undertaking to pay subcontractors in time and [with regards to] communication, a clear channel has been opened,” he said.

He said that they do not anticipate any more site closures adding that Diepsloot police has been urged to arrest anyone involved in future disruptions of work.

“Now there is a clear communication channel for all the stakeholders in case some issues arise in future. So there is no need anymore for disruptions. Police will be called in if anyone disrupts progress at the site,” said Molatjane.
