Recognised and nominated for Top Cop Award

DOUGLASDALE - Read to see who is nominated for the Top Cop Award.

Going beyond the line of duty to serve the community is of utmost importance to public servants and Sergeant Nicholas Mokwena bears testimony to this.

It is for this reason that Mokwena has been nominated for the Top Cop Award. “I am very happy to learn that I have been nominated for the Top Cop Award and it is nice to see that I am being recognised by the community,” Mokwena said.

The award gives the public an opportunity to nominate and vote for police and Metro police officers of Douglasdale Police Station who have excelled in the line of duty.

Speaking about his experience with the nominated top cop, Colonial Alpheus Mohale said Mokwena is a hard worker and assists community members, even after hours, and he is always willing to help.

Mohale further said that he goes out of his way to help the community as well as his own colleagues. “He also plays a role in many awareness campaigns that Douglasdale Police Station holds and really cares deeply for the community,” Mohale said.

“Mokwena is very punctual, dresses decently and always has police equipment in hand. He has never been absent without valid reason as his quality of service is of a good standard.”

Every month, Fourways Review will publish nominations in print and online and ask readers to vote for who they think deserves to win the Top Cop Award. The winner each month will receive R2 500 from Auto & General. On top of this, there will be six other categories in which winners will receive a certificate and R500. These winners will be selected by the Douglasdale Community Policing Forum.

The monthly winners from April to November will then be nominated for the year-end Top Cop Award and voted for by the public where the winner will receive R5 000.

The overall Top Cop will win a whopping R25 000. The grand total of prizes is sponsored by Auto & General and amounts to more than R100 000.

“It really feels good to be appreciated, that way it boosts your work morale and stamina to work harder for the community. The community should know that I am here for them and their safety is of top priority to me,” Mokwena expressed.
