Mzansi culinary festival returns to Joburg

The Mzansi International Culinary Festival (MiCF) returns to Joburg for the third consecutive year as chefs of the highest culinary standards grace the event as part of Africa Month.

Keeping to its proud heritage, MiCF returns to the prestigious Tinswalo Waterfall Estate Boutique Hotel on 28 and 29 May and will play host to leading chefs from the continent who will bring fine dining and authentic African cuisine to Joburg.

Adding to the offering that Johannesburg residents have come to expect, this year chef Nompumelelo Mqwebu, popularly known as chef Mpumi, has secured two Michelin Star chefs who will demonstrate their culinary skills at the festival.

Caribbean chef, Jason Howard and French chef, Chrisophe Serge Stéphane Moisand will be accompanied at the festival by Kenyan chef, Rose Owiyo Oyugi Soula and New York-based Senegalese celebrity chef, Pierre Thiam.

Mpumi, the director of Africa Meets Europe Cuisine and founder of the festival said, “Through MiCF and our partners DAC, Miele and the Department of Tourism, we continue to unite people through food and culture which is a means of crossing the divide between cultures.”

With May being dubbed Africa Month, MiCF boasts a variety of flavours. “I believe that we can tap into unique African flavours and enhance well-known local dishes using indigenous ingredients that are available in our market, especially our small producers,” added Mpumi.

This year, visitors of the festival will be able to meet local producers and taste meals cooked by various chefs from Venda, Pedi, Cape Malay, Indian and San heritage. Food enthusiasts can also sample food and drinks from the best local vendors.
