LRA celebrates the Lonehill Park parking upgrade

LONEHILL – Long-awaited Lonehill Park parking entrance upgrade is celebrated.

After more than a year in the pipeline, the long-awaited upgrade of the Lonehill Park entrance was finally completed and unveiled in an intimate ceremony on 22 April at the park.

Speaking at the event, John Siddall, chairman of the Lonehill Residents Association (LRA), said the project was in collaboration with City Parks, sponsors, and the board of directors and staff of the association.

Siddall said, “If you have a good relationship with people and you have two parties both wanting to do something you will always find a way to do it.”

He explained that the joint venture came about when City Parks met with LRA directors and the association’s estate manager Doug Black last year about improvements required to the park, particularly the entrance.

City Parks agreed to supply the materials for the paving and provided 10 040 bricks. Joseph Ndou, City Parks regional manager said, “The partnership we have with the LRA is one of the best we have – even though there was no money we tried to see where we could get the money.”

Siddall added that the cost of labour to lay the paving was paid from the LRA Envirofund which was boosted by funds raised from events hosted by the association throughout the year, and regular monthly contributions made by a number of generous community-minded Lonehill residents.

Kelly Braum of the association explained that the paving would enable easy access to the park and a parking facility, especially for the elderly and those less abled.

The upgrade to the entrance is just one of the projects the LRA and City Parks have planned for the year, and Ndou confirmed that the City was committed to supplying the association with 10 140m² of interlocking bricks to extend the paving all the way to Lonehill Boulevard.

He confirmed that the bricks would be delivered by the end of May this year. Ndou said, “After we have purchased the interlocking bricks, the next step will be to redo the existing pathways which will be done before the end of this financial year.”

Siddall thanked everyone who was involved in making the project possible.
