Appeal for public assistance to bury Diepsloot fire victim

DIEPSLOOT – Beatrice Mhlongo is gone, but left behind a burial headache for her pensioner boyfriend.

DA councillor, Refilwe Mathebula is appealing to well-wishers to assist pensioner, Johnson Ndlovu to bury his late girlfriend, Beatrice Mhlongo, who died on 24 April when their shack in Ext 12 caught fire and burnt down.

Mathebula said that the indigent family has no capacity to give a decent burial to their loved one. “They don’t have a funeral policy… we are appealing to the nation to assist with her burial,” said Mathebula.

Ndlovu was still traumatised when this paper contacted him and he is still trying to come to terms with the fatal incident.

He was not at home when the tragedy struck.

Beatrice was last seen by her neighbours walking home carrying a bottle of paraffin. It is suspected that she might have fallen asleep while cooking on a paraffin stove.

Mathebula also appealed to members of the community to form or join burial societies. “We need to prepare for the future because you never know what happens tomorrow. We have different burial societies or funeral policies that can accommodate different pockets or families,” said Mathebula.

Details: Contributions can be sent through Mathebula who can be contacted on 082 973 5150.
