This following the Democratic Alliance’s boast that the ruling party had surrendered the area to opposition parties.
ANC councillor, Rodgers Makhubele came out of the closet to reclaim the streets of Johannesburg North. “We are busy doing door-to-door campaigns, there is no need for us to be making a noise in the streets,” said Makhubele in an exclusive interview with Fourways Review.
Makhubele conceded that his party members remained absent from Johannesburg North streets during the last registration weekend. “On Saturday, we were visiting our members in their homes and campaigning door to door, but on Sunday our members turned up at registration centres,” said Makhubele.
His response came after DA Fourways MP Cameron Mackenzie accused the ruling party of going into hiding. Mackenzie said ANC members and supporters were demoralised by the recent Constitutional Court ruling which condemned President Jacob Zuma for failing to uphold the Constitution after refusing to implement Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s recommendations.
Madonsela had recommended that Zuma pay for the non-security upgrades done by the State at his Nkandla home.
DA local councillor, Refilwe Mathebula also expressed the same sentiments, saying Zuma’s party had completely deserted the fort.
