Ward 93 councillor Annette Deppe shared her take on the final registration for the 2016 municipal elections.
According to Deppe, the registrations were a success, as many community members got to understand where they should register to vote. She added that when residents found out where to register, some of them became upset when they discovered they had to register in a different province, discouraging some of them from voting.
Deppe explained that one resident expressed his frustrations and said, “I have been living in Paulshof for 12 years, yet the IEC had my address for Sundown, where I have never lived before. Then the officials told me to go to Home Affairs to correct my address but after I become insistent they gave me a form to complete in order to correct my address.”
The municipal elections will be held on 3 August for all districts and local municipalities in all nine existing provinces.
