Fourways Constituency MP Cameron Mackenzie has urged President Jacob Zuma to accept responsibility for his actions and resign.

Mackenzie made the statement during a recent exclusive interview with Fourways Review.

The upright legislator warned Zuma against blaming other people for his personal mistakes. “The failure of the president to accept responsibility for his actions and resign is symptomatic of the lack of accountability shown by so many public representatives he leads – even down to the local level. The blame always lies somewhere else, with someone else – in this case, as Zuma said with ‘legal advice’,” said Mackenzie.

Mackenzie made the statement in reference to the recent ConCourt ruling which found that Zuma had broken the oath of his office by refusing to follow recommendations from Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela regarding the payment of non-security features which the State erected at his Nkandla home in KwaZulu-Natal.

The tough-talking lawmaker maintained that Zuma attempted to subvert the findings of the public protector by introducing a parallel parliamentary process which Mackenzie described as ‘reprehensible and unconstitutional’.

“If this is how easily these politicians break their oath of office, imagine how easy it is for them to repeatedly break their promises to the voters – election after election. Houses for all, jobs for all, an end to poverty. [And] let’s not forget Zuma’s last promise – five million jobs. All lies, all broken promises,” said Mackenzie who clearly sounds like he is in election mode.

He also warned the people of South Africa to learn from history.

“Can the people of this country expect anything different this time around?” asked Mackenzie.

Mackenzie is part of the opposition MPs who, on 5 April, attempted to impeach President Zuma for breaking the oath of his office.
