Joburg North journalist is highly commended

NATIONAL – Joburg North journalist wins prestigious award for the column he writes for Alex News.

Alex News journalist, Sipho Siso made the Johannesburg North branch proud by walking away with a highly commended certificate for best regular column.

Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein hosted the glittering annual Caxton Awards on the evening of 17 March, where journalists were recognised and rewarded for their hard work.

Siso remained humble when asked how he felt about his great achievement, saying that he is not used to having people interviewing him. “Normally I am the one doing the interviewing,” he said.

Siso has been with Caxton for the past 10 years and expressed how delighted he is to be given this award. “This means that we are doing something right in this office,” he quipped.

“I must be honest, Megan Tyack [group editor] kept nagging and insisting that I write this column. She must have seen the diamond in me.”

Siso began writing the regular weekly column for Alex news when Tyack asked him to write the column a year ago during the national elections, and ever since then he has been writing the column.

Siso normally writes his columns based on social political issues.

“My column is either proactive and, in most instances, reactive to the issues that we face in Alex and South Africa.”
