Dainfern College feeds underprivileged children in Diepsloot

DAINFERN – The Dainfern College Parents’ Association has achieved wonderful results with funds raised for disadvantaged schools.

Twenty-five percent of the funds raised by the parents’ association are donated to the Dainfern College Foundation to be used in its outreach initiatives.

The foundation has a monthly feeding scheme in place at Reshomile Primary School, Itirele Zenzele Comprehensive School and LEAP 4 School, all in Diepsloot. The scheme supplies monthly food parcels to more than 320 orphaned and vulnerable children.

As these food parcels contain non-perishable food items, the foundation has identified a need to supplement the children’s diet with fresh produce.

The Dainfern College Foundation is in the process of establishing a dedicated food tunnel at Reshomile as a secure and advanced method of growing vegetables to supplement the children’s diet.

Two water tanks have already been installed at the school to ensure that there is a constant supply of water to grow the produce successfully and pupils of Dainfern College have been busy growing beans to kickstart the project.

Hungry children cannot learn and the food parcels, together with the additional vitamins and minerals from this fresh produce, will contribute to healthier children who have increased concentration at school.
