Domestic workers to meet in Magaliessig

MAGALIESSIG - The first Making A Difference (MAD) Domestic Watch meeting in Magaliessig is set to take place at Norscot Manor Recreation Centre on 18 February.

“The meeting is for domestic workers from the whole area of Fourways, not just those in the Magaliessig, hence, it will be held at Norscot Manor Recreation Centre,” founder of the Mad initiative, Penny Steyn said.

Steyn believes that it all comes down to motivating domestic staff to believe in their self-worth because safety against crime starts with the self.

“At these meetings, domestic workers are taught certain lessons such as how to be able to take care of yourself … as well as how to deal with not being happy with their employer when not seeing eye to eye due to differences,” Steyn explained.

Steyn began the initiative when she realised that domestic workers were often blamed for unwittingly letting criminals into their homes or onto the properties of their employers.

“There is more room for domestic workers to learn and grow, hence, at these meetings they are equipped with such skills,” she concluded.

The crime prevention meeting will start at 9.30am and domestic workers are advised to attend.
