Broadacres Fitment Centre helps collect water for those in need

BROADACRES - Due to the recent drought which has hit some parts of the country and left people in need of water, Broadacres Fitment Centre has collected water for Water Shortage South Africa over the past week.

Water Shortage SA is a Facebook page which encourages travellers to take water with them as they travel and give water to people who are affected by the drought. The page was created on 28 December last year as water distribution and collection points have been set up around the country.

“It is not the number of members on the page that is important to me, but the amount of water that is being transported,” co-founder of Water Shortage SA, Caroline van Saasen said.

Thus far, Broadacres Fitment centre has collected about 14 000 litres of water from Fourways residents and businesses, and Operation Hydrate, an initiative which helps assist with the collection and distribution of drinking water to the Free State and Eastern Cape, will help deliver the water collected at the centre.

One of the co-owners of the centre, Gavin Pike said, “I volunteered to become a drop-off point around Fourways and we are still accepting water from community members to help those in need of water during this drought season.”
