Vervet monkeys invade Beverley

LONEHILL – The Lonehill Residents' Association has recently warned those living in complexes along Riverside Road in Beverley about vervet monkeys after a troop was spotted in the area.

According to Kelly Braum of the association, the monkeys are thought to have come from Glenferness. “It seems they are venturing across in residential complexes, possibly in search of food,” Braum said.

Ward 94 councillor John Mendelsohn said that he had not received any complaints of vervet monkeys in the area as yet. “Vervet monkeys are a threat to people and may pose a health risk,” Mendelsohn said. He urged residents to contact him if they spotted any of the monkeys in the area.

Braum urged residents not to feed the monkeys but to chase them away if found in the garden.
