Relief for residents as SA Post Office confirms mail collection at Sloane Square

BRYANSTON – Following months of confusion, the South African Post Office has confirmed that mail from the now-closed Bryanston Post Office can be collected at Sloane Square.

The mail is available for collection at the portable post box lobby units set up at Sloane Square, information which was verified by Sandton Chronicle on the entity’s website.

Khulani Qoma, spokesperson for the entity said, “All mail addressed to Bryanston postboxes can now be collected at the lobby units and customers are requested to bring along a form of identification such as an identity book,” he said.

“Collections times for the mail are from 8am to 4.30pm on weekdays and this will apply only until postboxes have been installed at Sloane Square.”

Qoma said mail that had been redirected to the Randburg Post Office would also be available for collection at these units.

Furthermore, a contact number for the yet-to-be-completed post office in Sloane Square was available but Qoma stressed that it would only be operational once the data lines have been installed and the office was online.

“Residents with queries regarding mail collection are urged to contact the post office so we will be able to assist them,” he said.

The saga surrounding the Bryanston Post Office was first reported in November (Mail from Bryanston Post Office is being redirected, week ending 20 November 2015) in which the sudden closure of the post office was said to be due to the non-payment of rent by the entity.

Mail from the closed post office was initially redirected to the Bryanston West Post Office before being taken to the Randburg Post Office.

It was then confirmed by Cameron MacKenzie, the Shadow Deputy Minister for Telecommunications and Postal Services, that a new post office would be opened at Sloane Square to replace the Bryanston one. The date for the opening of the new post office is yet to be confirmed.
