First day of school blues for Unity College

CHARTWELL – Unity College, a special needs school based in Broadacres, opened its doors for their Early Intervention Centre on 13 January.

The first day of school for the new pupils included a few tears, plenty of excitement and lots of noise.

Bruce Lindsay, principal of the school, explained that the school decided to open the Early Intervention Centre after they noticed that there was no pre-school catering for children with special needs available. “With that in mind, we researched and developed a state-of-the-art special needs Early Intervention Centre,” he said.

The centre forms part of the holistic educational ethos of Unity College.

Lindsay explained that a total of five pupils enrolled this year, with the centre having a capacity for eight pupils.

The school also welcomed a few new pupils who also joined the school in both their junior and intermediate phase.
