Motorist robbed of Rolex watch, 1 suspect bust

DOUGLASDALE – Douglasdale police are on the lookout for three suspects who allegedly robbed a motorist of his Rolex watch, estimated to be valued at R120 000, on 13 January.

According to warrant officer Balan Muthan of Douglasdale Police Station, the suspects followed the victim from a local shopping centre to his place of work in Kya Sands and allegedly tailgated their way into the premises. When reception saw what had happened, they immediately closed the gate, locking the suspects in.

The suspects attempted to exit by driving their vehicle into the gate and were forced to abandon their vehicle after failing. A shootout between the suspects and a security guard ensued, resulting in the security guard being injured.

Three of the suspects managed to flee the scene and one was arrested. The suspect was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Muthan alleged that the suspect has been positively linked to six robbery cases in the Douglasdale area.
