St Peter’s obtains 100 percent matric pass rate

SUNNINGHILL - St Peter's College has once again walked away with an impressive academic record in the 2015 matric examinations.

Out of 103 pupils, 99 achieved university entry and the remaining four pupils qualified to further their studies in colleges.

The acting principal of the school, Rui Morais gave credit to his hard-working teachers.

Harry Joannou, one of the college’s top five students, obtained an overall average of 86 percent and was a white blazer recipient. He scored six distinctions. Besides excellent academics, Joannou is the proud recipient of South African colours for Scouts and received a number of awards at the college’s recent prize-giving ceremony; however it was the headmaster’s award that set him apart from his peers. Joannou achieved an outstanding 96 percent for maths. He will study Business Sciences at the University of Cape Town this year.

Roger Wyllie, another top pupil, obtained an overall average of 85.7 percent and was a Dux scholar last year. Wyllie got a total of six distinctions. He is the proud recipient of a white blazer and achieved 90 percent in both maths and business studies in his final results. Roger has applied to study at North American IV League of Universities.

Another top pupil, Ryan Shackleton, received an overall average of 84 percent plus six distinctions. He was awarded a number of trophies at the college’s prize-giving ceremony for advanced programme mathematics and senior physical science. Shackleton attained 91 percent in maths and will study Mechanical Engineering at TUKS this year.

Tamzyn Smith, adding to the top pupil list, worked hard to obtain an overall average of 83 percent. She bagged six distinctions. Smith was a prefect and was the top French student of the year. She was awarded prizes for French, English, creative mathematics as well as for having the highest aggregate for Afrikaans. Smith achieved 90 percent in her English final examination.

Completing the top five student list is Danielle Rubbers who received an overall average of 81 percent with six distinctions. Rubbers received a visual culture studies award and attained 88 percent for visual art in her final examination.
