River pollution at top of the list for 2016.

FOURWAYS – With the year almost done and dusted, Ward 96 councillor Matome Mafokwane shared his hopes and goals for the new year with Fourways Review.

“Firstly I would like to thank residents in my ward for their continuous support and for constantly keeping me on the ball. Without their constant phone calls, texts and e-mails things may not have been done as quickly as they were,” Mafokwane said.

He added that he hoped to maintain strong relationships with residents in 2016, and see the Democratic Alliance win the 2016 Municipal Elections.

Regarding issues in his ward, Mafokwane explained that river pollution topped the list in 2015. “The biggest challenge in this community is pollution of the Jukskei River… we have always known we have an issue and have asked Joburg Water for remedial action,” he said. He said he planned to tackle the pollution in the new year by working closely with the entity.

He urged community members to come together as they, too, had a role to play in the upkeep of the environment.
