Comedians fight for Movember charity
SUNNINGHILL - Comedians boxed it out in commemoration of Movember at the #ComedyBoxing Comedians Fighting Contest on 14 November at Fight Fit Militia in Sunninghill.
The fighting contest is in association with Movember Move to get men ‘off the couch’ and to be active.
The opening stand-up comedy act of the evening was from comedians, Hannes Brummer and Werner Cloete hosted by Vittorio Leonardi.
The evening saw different comedians battle it out as Warren Robertson came up against Suhyl Essa in a light-heavyweight round. The catch-weight fight round was Simmi Areff against Nqoba Ngcobo. The heavy-weights round fight was from Baas De Beer and Malcolm Ferreira.
The most awaited fight of the evening was the main-card fight from #ComedyBoxing fighting contest founder, Glen “Kudu of Chaos” Bo against Werner “Green-Farmer” Webber from Cape Town. Their fight was declared a draw and saw all comedians who fought, raise over R6 000 for the Movember Charity.
Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as depression in men, prostate cancer and other male cancers. The Movember Foundation runs the charity event and its goal is to “change the face of men’s health” by encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as “Mo Bros”) to get involved. The foundation’s aim is to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and to ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle
Bo and Webber’s fight was declared “Fight of the night!” by Norman “Chef” Wessels, EFC light-heavyweigh champion and judge, Greame Cartmell, EFC Matchmaker.
Fight Fit Militia will host another comedians fighting contest next year as Johannesburg comedians take on Cape Town comedians at their now annual fighting contest.
