According to Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela, head of communications for the Diepsloot Police, the girl’s mother had left her unattended in their room for about 30 minutes.
The girl had been wearing a T-shirt and underwear.
When the mother returned the girl pointed to her crotch.
The underwear she had been wearing was missing and her mother noticed a substance that resembled semen.
When the girl was asked about the substance she pointed at the landlord.
The police were notified and the suspect was arrested.
The suspect will be charged with rape and is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
Diepsloot police are appealing to parents and care-givers to always keep their small children in sight.
