DA – Diepsloot should form security groups

DIEPSLOOT - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is appealing to residents of Diepsloot to form security groups when walking through crime hotspots.

The opposition party advised this after residents repeatedly complained about being mugged and beaten up near the abandoned bed and breakfast property on Mnandi Road. The property has become a haven for criminals.

“We also urge people walking to and from work on the road passing the B & B to walk in groups in order to prevent criminal attacks,” said DA PR councillor Refilwe Mathebula.

“I will, therefore, be writing to the City of Johannesburg to report this building and request that they take action in terms of the bylaws on problem properties, 2014.”

She called upon the police and security services companies which patrol the streets of Diepsloot to put a stop to the rising crime rate ahead of the festive season.

“DA would like to urge the people travelling to and from Diepsloot to be more vigilant and take steps to ensure their safety as crime tends to increase in the area during this period,” Mathebula said.

She added that her party was calling on residents to assist the police by providing them information on criminal activity.

Diepsloot police spokesperson Warrant Officer Daniel Mavimbela had not yet responded to questions about the crime hotspots by the time of publication.
